The Story behind “Truemidity”
2013 - The beginning of a wonderful friendship: Two businessmen, one - Tobias - from Germany, the other - Matthew - from Malaysia, who met at a trade fair in Budapest in 2013 and who met again and again in the following years at international trade fairs all over the world - not only to discuss business matters - but also to enjoy premium cigars together, realized that they repeatedly encountered problems when it came to protecting and properly moistening their beloved cigars. Due to their professional activities, both were often away from home for weeks, sometimes even months, and therefore could not always monitor the correct storage of their cigars. The conventional humidification systems did not meet expectations and so Tobias, for example, had to deal with mold in his humidors several times, especially since his wife was unfortunately unable to look after his cigar stock and check for the correct humidity while he was away on long business trips - and Matthew noticed that his cigars had a change in taste when using humidification packs. Research showed that these taste changes were due to the use of salt additives and corrosive salts used in the humidification packs. Matthew also found out that some manufacturers of humidification packs use acetone-containing glue to bond their packs - this evaporates in the closed humidor and changes the original taste of the expensive cigars for the worse. An experience that other cigar friends of the two had already experienced as well.
In 2018 at a trade fair in Las Vegas, the two discussed these problems and decided to develop a humidification system that would not have all these disadvantages. The idea for Truemidity was born - but it took a while to find the right ingredients, the optimal manufacturing methods and producers for the Truemidity humidification packs. Matthew in particular traveled the world and had intensive discussions with his business partners from the cigar and tobacco industry.
In 2019, the right partner was found - through his contacts, Matthew had found a factory in China that had many years of experience and expertise in the field of humidification and dehumidification - this factory had already sold dehumidification products to end customers through a well-known German discount chain. What followed were several trips to China and meetings with the factory's product developers, which was no easy undertaking, but since Matthew spoke fluent Mandarin, communication with the technicians and engineers on site was no problem and the first prototypes were created. However, a few changes and improvements were still needed before the Truemidity humidification pack finally met the high requirements and expectations of the two in order to present it to customers worldwide.
In 2020, Truemidity suffered a setback in its schedule due to the global Covid-19 pandemic - however, Tobias in Germany used the time sensibly to work with a graphic designer to design the packs and packaging, the company CI and various promotional materials such as flyers, banners, stickers, etc. Furthermore, expert opinions were obtained from the company's lawyer and assessments from the German Office for Consumer Protection in order to be prepared for all eventualities.
In 2022 the time had finally come - after the Truemidity humidification packs had undergone numerous tests and trials and everyone involved was of the opinion that this product would meet the high requirements, a test run was carried out with one of the leading cigar dealers in Germany - this test run was extremely successful and Truemidity was officially launched on the humidification system market in 2022 - the InterTabac trade fair in Dortmund was chosen for this, where Truemidity was represented with a stand in cooperation with a large cigar manufacturer.
2023 was all about the market launch and general feedback from retailers and end customers - the inquiries and orders from the InterTabac trade fair 2022 were processed and new distributors were activated. The positive feedback confirmed our work and participation in InterTabac 2023 rounded off the year - this time with a larger stand than in the previous year.
The next step was then initiated in 2024 and the Truemidity "Plant Edition" was developed. In contrast to the Tobacco Edition, this is used for the optimal storage of plants and herbs and has an RH content of 58% or 62% and a different color scheme. In contrast to the Tobacco Edition, the common sizes of the packs are in the smaller range, with sizes 1.5 - 4 and 8 grams being popular here.
